AFRICAGIS is the premier conference and exhibition focusing ongeo-information technologies and applications in Africa. The principalobjective of AFRICAGIS is to provide a platform for geo-informationprofessionals from Africa to learn about geo-information technology andits applications. It provides a forum for geo-information professionalsto meet, interact, and be updated on new developments, products andemerging trends and issues.

Conference Language

The conference language is English with simultaneous translation intoFrench of the plenary and some of the parallel sessions. There will beKeynote addresses, 20-minute paper presentations, followed by a15-minute discussion and 60-minute facilitated general discussion atthe end of each session. Poster sessions will be organized withflexibility to allow participants learn as much from the presenters in an environment as a market place. There will also be ample space forexhibition by vendors and various organizations.


Conference Objective

The AfricaGIS2009 conference objective is to take stock ofwhat has been achieved since the previous conferences, practices, initiativesand identify issues for the future of Africagiven the two critical global challenges of urbanization and environmentalchange. With Africa unequivocally urbanizingcoupled with the complex environmental changes the challenge is whether Africanleadership in all spheres, researchers, corporations and developmentpractitioners are ready for the challenges.
