The Firelight Group, Musqueam Indian Band, Squamish Nation, National Aboriginal Lands Managers Association, Inlailawatash Limited Partnership, Ecotrust Canada, Google Earth Outreach, and Esri Canada will welcome more than 150 community practitioners from across North America to Vancouver, BC on November 7-10, 2016, for the 3rd annual Indigenous Mapping Workshop.

The Indigenous Mapping Workshop will combine presentations by Indigenous communities engaged in mapping projects, with technical training sessions on geospatial technologies to support Indigenous rights and interests. Sessions will explore various Google, Esri Canada, and QGIS tools, which participants can use to collect, host, visualize, share, and publish community data. The technical training will be co-led by members of the Google Earth Outreach, Esri Canada, and Indigenous mapping experts with years of experience.

Application Process: To ensure effective dialogue and hands-on experience, there will be a limited number of seats. Also, priority will be given to Indigenous communities and organizations. Interested candidates will be asked to apply to attend the workshop. Applications will be accepted on a rolling admissions basis starting on August 3, 2016 until all workshop spots are filled. The selection committee will review each application and notify the applicant of their decision within a few weeks from submission.
